Book: Process Control Methods, A Practical Approach
Although several scientific papers have been published in the field of “Process Control” so far, there was a need for existence of a book with a practical approach and produced based on industrial experience. “Process Control Methods” book which is produced by Tehran Raymand Consulting Engineers and is technically edited by Professor Mohammad Shahrokhi, Faculty of Petroleum and Chemical Engineering at Sharif University of Technology, follows the above-mentioned approach. This book has been published with a 3000 circulation in 2006 through Rasa Publications in Tehran, Iran and has been well received by the scientific and professional communities. Here is an excerpt from the book introduction: “In line with recent developments of process industries in our country, engineering firms in private and public sectors have started endeavors to acquire, document, develop and apply process engineering knowledge. Tehran Raymand Consulting Engineers experience in development projects in oil, gas and petrochemical industries, in cooperation with reputable international companies, has lead to production and publication of “Process Control Methods” book. Since control engineering is a multidisciplinary science which is addressed in electrical and mechanical engineering as well as chemical engineering, contents of this book is arranged in a manner so that it provides a practical content with a process-oriented approach to control issues, with emphasis on usual equipments in industries. It is worthy to mention that this book is written with a practical mindset and efforts have been made to decrease the volume of mathematical calculation and formulae in it. The structure of the book is as follows: In the first chapter, general process control concepts are presented. In chapter two, digital control and in chapter three, distributed control systems are discussed. The next five chapters explain pump control, including positive displacement and centrifugal pumps, compressor control encompassing positive displacement and centrifugal compressors, converter control, vessel control, and tower and reboiler control.
